In 2018, my husband and I felt a deep need for direction and purpose in our lives. We decided to take a weekend trip to an Airbnb in Sandton, hoping to find some clarity through prayer and reflection. During this retreat, we felt inspired to start Purpose & Proverbs, a Christian home and decor business aimed at helping others deepen their faith.
Stepping Out in Faith
I was only 21 at the time, without a formal degree or background in business or design. However, I believed that if this was God's plan for me, He would provide the skills and resources I needed. My husband, who works as a sales manager, was my biggest supporter. He believed in my vision so much that he bought the business’s first name, which gave me the push I needed to get started.
From a Personal Need to a Business Idea
The idea for Purpose & Proverbs came from a personal struggle. I was searching for Bible Tabs in South Africa but couldn't find any. Importing them from the USA was too expensive, so I decided to make my own. Using simple materials like paper, Pritt glue, and scissors, I crafted my first set of Bible Tabs. This small project marked the beginning of something much bigger.
Overcoming Early Challenges
Creating those first Bible Tabs was just the start. I began experimenting with different materials and methods to improve the product. In 2019, I was able to manufacture my first official set of Bible Tabs. It wasn’t easy—limited funding and introducing a new product to the South African market were significant challenges. But with faith and determination, I kept moving forward.
Growing Purpose & Proverbs
What started as a simple idea has grown beyond my expectations. Purpose & Proverbs has sold thousands of Bible Tabs, not just in South Africa but also internationally. Our product line now includes Bible covers, wall decor, and stationery, all designed with intentionality and purpose. By designing and manufacturing everything in-house, we can respond creatively to new inspirations.
Our Mission and Community Impact
At the heart of Purpose & Proverbs is a desire to create products that inspire and serve as daily reminders of God’s presence. Our journey of faith and perseverance has resonated with many, encouraging them to spend more intentional time in the Word of God. We've grown from small online sales and market stalls to larger expos and becoming a recognized seller on Takealot. We’ve also built a network of shops that carry our products, helping us reach even more people.
Looking to the Future
As we look ahead, we remain committed to our original vision. We plan to expand our product offerings and reach more people worldwide. With faith as our foundation and creativity as our tool, we hope to inspire and uplift many more lives.
